Famed for its beautiful medieval centre and 16th-century Priamar fortress, Savona is an especially important city within the Liguria Riviera and lies approximately 31 km / 19 miles from Genova (Genoa).
At present, the city of Savona is home to one of most prominent of all the Italian ports and due to this fact, the sheer choice of accommodation has greatly improved in recent years, with many top-class hotels being located within the city centre itself and also close by. However, there is currently no lodging actually available within the old town area.
Budget travellers will appreciate staying at one of the two HI hostels in Savona, with the Fortezza del Priamar tending to be the best choice. Nearby, the Riviera Suisse Hotel on the Via Paleocapa also offers very reasonably priced accommodation. Those who prefer camping will find that the Buggi campsite is always reliable and can be found on the Via NS del Monte.
Other hotels offering excellent facilities include the Punta San Martino, which is situated about 18 km / 11 miles from Savona in Arenzano and overlooks the sea and the Hotel Nuovo Suisse, which has a private beach and offers excellent tourist facilities.
